1: carry me home

(first line from I Carry Your Heart by E.E. Cummings)

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my pocket) with loose change and candy wrappers
and things i have forgotten

i keep your heart folded between pages of the bible (i keep it
in my soul) with old loves and tired tales
and things i can't let go

i hide your heart in breaths, in breathing (i hide it in
my blood) with hushed words and silenced screaming
with all alone's and barely there's
and call me after's and nevermind's
and keep me safe's
and love me right's
                                love,
                                        please come back;
                                        my heart's not mine.
